The MTS Scientific Committee is comprised of Professors Giorgio Basevi, Marco Pagano, Bruno Biais, Gustavo Piga
and Ernst-Ludwig von Thadden. Representatives of MTS participate in the meetings of the Scientific Committee according
to their specific involvement and expertise in the matters discussed. Giorgio Basevi, Gianluca Garbi and Philippe Rakotovao
ensure a continuous participation on behalf of MTS.
Marco Pagano,
Chairman of the Scientific Committee, holds a Ph.D. in economics from M.I.T. and has been Co-Director of the Research
Programme in Financial Economics at the Center for Economic Policy Research. Currently he is Professor of Economics at
the Universita' di Napoli Federico II and editor of the Review of Finance, the journal of the European Finance Association.
He has been an advisor to the World Bank, the European Central Bank, the Inter-American Development Bank, the EU Commission,
the EU Parliament, Unicredit, Borsa Italiana, CONSOB (the Italian security exchange commission) and the Italian Treasury.
Bruno Biais,
holds a Ph.D. from HEC. He has been professor at HEC, Carnegie Mellon University, the London Business School and Oxford Univeristy and
Junior Fellow of the Institut Universitaire de France. He is now Director of Research at IDEI and CNRS and Professor of Finance at Toulouse
University. He has been a scientific adviser of Euronext, the FEFSI, the NYSE and the City of London. He received the CNRS bronze medal and
the NYSE award for the best paper on equity trading.
Giorgio Basevi,
Deputy Chairman of MTS, holds a Ph.D. and MA in economics and is Professor of
International Economics at the Universita' di Bologna.
Gustavo Piga,
Deputy Chairman of MTS, holds a Ph.D. in economics from Columbia University and is Professor of Economics at the Universit di Roma Tor Vergata.
He is currently Managing Editor of the Rivista di Politica Economica.
Ernst-Ludwig von Thadden
is Ph.D. in Economics from the University of Bonn and M.Phil in Economics from the London School of Economics. He is Professor of Economics at
the Universitat Mannheim and was previously Professor of Economics and Finance at the University of Lausanne. Professor von Thadden is also a
consultant to the World Bank and the United Nations and is managing editor of the Journal of Financial Intermediation
Bridget Simpkins holds an MBA from OUBSA, UK. She is British but has been living in Italy for 20 years working
for Barings, The Carlyle Group and Prada among others.
